happiness gets blurry sometimes
so I stop
take stock
and smile
for the gift of a scarf
the touch of warmth in the sun
and the life i hold in my hands.
happiness gets blurry sometimes
so I spin
and revel in my femininity
knowing this life is mine to enjoy.
This scarf was a gift from a friend of mine who bought it for me while she was in Turkey. It was an amazing feeling for someone to travel to a far-off land and think of me and bring me a gift. Its one of my favorite scarfs in my collection. I remember the day I took this picture so vividly…it was just warming up a little outside. Not too bad for a February afternoon. The ground was moist beneath my feet where the snow was melting. I stood out in my backyard for probably an hour taking portraits. Because of my project, I made time during my week to spend in front of the camera and those minutes I spent were really a treasure. I could take a break from the world around me and all the turmoil. I could breath and I could smile. I really miss having a reason to stop, to take a break and take a picture. But I’m so glad to have captured images like this and the other ones I took that day.
How do you feel about giving and receiving gifts?
Do you make time each week to be creative?
What have you learned about yourself from those times?
Wondering about this post? I am sharing my 52weeks project from 2010 each week on my blog and analyzing the image and the poem with fresh eyes two years later. For an explanation of the project and to start at the beginning click HERE.
Cuuute pic!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE giving "just because" gifts (and of course receiving them, who doesn't love that?!) and I need to do it much more often. I love sending people little things just because it made me think of them. My sister collects nutcracker figures to put out around the holidays and I once found a turkey nutcracker (if that makes any sense). This thing was huge and ridiculous, but it made me laugh and think of her so I sent it. She called me two days later, dying laughing when she opened it. That's just the best.
ReplyDeleteYes!! Gifts like that are just the greatest. Knowing someone was thinking of you...and when they're funny its even better! Thanks for sharing your story.
DeleteI really love that you are reflecting on older posts. Such a great idea. That picture is beautiful btw, as well as the poem you wrote 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteNow on to your questions, I much prefer to give gifts than receive them. I feel awkward when I get a gift like my reaction doesn't really reflect how grateful I am.
Yes, I think I do make probably too much time to be creative and not enough time to dust and sweep ;) wink wink!
I have learned that I absolutely love to create and that it is vital to my well being to create.
This picture makes me so happy!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE giving gifts, love love love, I feel a little awkward receiving them though
It can be a little awkward, but I think my favorite part about receiving gifts is writing a thank you card. :) I love to make them and save them to use, or buy cute ones at the store.
