I was just doing some research on marriage and found an article that I'm pretty sure was written just for me...Isn't it funny how that works?Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08074833380553397967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18871908.post-76886216449311348822012-08-13T22:12:24.088-07:002012-08-13T22:12:24.088-07:00I agree with you wholeheartedly about communicatio...I agree with you wholeheartedly about communication being important. It's important to chose your words wisely and to listen and be patient when things are difficult to talk about, but not shy away from tackling those difficult things either.

One of the reasons my relationship with the ex-husband failed was because we could never quite get the communication thing down. It was difficult for me to share my true feelings with him because you never knew what was going to set him off on a nasty tirade, and despite attempts to introduce some more gentle communication styles to our repertoire, they never stuck... and in the end, it just came out that we were both miserable with each other and wanted out.

After that, I vowed never to get involved with someone who couldn't communicate effectively and with gentleness. My relationship with James is SO much better in this respect... it's not perfect, and we don't always agree on things... but we talk it out and work it out and come up with compromises to make things work for us.
